Hey everyone, I think now might be a good time to break the unintentional radio silence I've been putting on for the past while. Yes, I'm still alive, and yes: more art is on the way!

I've been working for AGES on a third deep-sea creature portrait. If you hang around the forums for work in progress art at pixeljoint, you'll have seen it. It's... impossible. Seriously. I'm going to have to redraw a lot of it, just because it's so stupendously challenging! But for those who haven't seen the WIP, I'll leave it as a surprise.

Nah, just kidding. Here's a teaser:

Now for some small stuff that was too rough for the gallery!

Distorted Angels
Scan lines! strange figures! A colour ramp that jumps from cyan to yellow! I should have posted this to the gallery, but I don't feel like it anymore for some reason. Still, I may make it into a series and post a whole whack of pieces from it one day.

Scary Teeth
This one was a one-minute sketch, or nearly that. Yes, it was inspired by Five Nights at Freddy's, but I consider it to be original and not connected to those horrible, horrible animatronic nightmares. Enough said, I have the heebee-jeebies now.

Set Table
The mundane is beautiful. I love set tables and warm lighting. Simply a fun practice piece to draw.

That's that for today, but I'm on winter break now. So more art may happen than usual.

Stay wonderful, and happy pixeling!

Hi folks, I kind of forgot to make this journal before I posted the final result, but hey, if it interests ya (or indulges me, it might be either or both ;P), it should be posted! I didn't document my progress on the city part of this piece, so this will be a short one looking at the texture of the clouds, mostly.
City by SuperTurnip

Here's the first little image, that I had made earlier--It hardly changes from here! I wanted something really spiffy and futuristic, so those little flying things are there as skycars of some sort. Also, shiny domes. It's not the future without them.
City2 by SuperTurnip

Then I added the clouds. I'm a little sad I didn't capture this at an earlier stage, but as is, you can see things like the dark patch leading to the curl of the cloud (a shaded cloud, maybe? Don't ask where the shadows are coming from, artistic licence taken here to allow that part of the composition), and the sunlight making the lower clouds glow. The brightest part of this image is always at the end of the city street.

Big shadows! Not much to say here... I edited the colours the whole way through, but as little as possible. I think it's a good idea to enhance things as one goes about their work, but big changes are hard to work with unless it's fixing a problem.
City4 by SuperTurnip

The adjustments here were making the cloud warmer in the highlights, and bluer in the shadows. The whole thing was set back in space by the blue cast in earlier incarnations, but the new warmer highlights mean the cloud extends forwards into space (warm colours can appear to pop forwards into space towards the viewer, cool colours depress backwards into the canvas). All this adds up to mean the cloud doesn't end up as the background--it's here to state its presence with the city, regardless of how far away it actually is.

This concludes today's work in progress, and I guess the image is already on the gallery, so... enjoy!

Wow, high school started again. Some of us in British Columbia were worried it would never happen, but hey, it's here. Now we're going back to the old schedule, working hard, and filling our school with seas of balloons. This is relevant to deviantart because I'm stupidly behind the times saying thanks to the latest watchers and commenters, so: Thanks everyone! I'm still alive and drawing, just caught up in the whirlwind of life and More Important Things. I'll be around a little, but not much, for the next little while. It's sad to think I'm out of that awesome stretch of tons of pixeling and high-speed experimentation, but I'm sure I'll get to that point again someday.
Until then,

Keep pixeling!
